What is the Best Anti Spyware Software?
By Jayson Solberg

“What is the best Anti Spyware?”Lately a lot of people have asked me about the current virus, spyware, Trojan, and other computer threats and I wanted to clear a couple of things up with this. Let me first explain the difference of these.

A computer virus is a program that replicates itself from one computer to another. They can perform various tasks including deleting files and taking over your email to help spread to the other computers. Viruses have been around since the 70s and are constantly changing over the years.

Spyware is the new threat that has emerged a couple of years ago. The driving force behind this is money. Spyware is installed on your computer by using some sort of trick to get you to install it. This can come from a website that has a pop up ad and when you click on it the software gets installed. I have seen this a lot recently from kids websites like Webkins and sites like that. They are hoping the kids will click on the links so that the computer can become infected. This is close to a $4 billion dollar business a year. Advertisers will pay big money to get their products out there.

Once this spyware is on your computer it is very hard to remove. Even for a technician like myself. The files like to change file names and shut off the Anti Virus software. We use many tricks to get rid of the Spyware. I use various tools like Malware Bytes, Super Anti Spyware, Adaware, and Hijack this. I have created numerous blogs for these fixes and no matter how many of these I come across they just never get easier. My best recommendation to everyone is to buy a good Anti Virus and Anti Spyware program that guarantees active protection. These range from $20-$80 a year. This is well worth the money when you think about how much I would charge a person to remove it. Say it takes me 3-4 hours. I charge anywhere from $50-$100 an hour for my services. You saved $100 already!

The average home user gets three to four of these per year. Think about that for a moment and you could be looking at $1000 in repairs just because of some stupid spyware that infected your computer. Now how much did you pay for that computer? Getting pretty expensive to update your Facebook account eh? Or put 130 words on your twitter account? Or so your kids can update their webkins home? Well maybe to get the kids out of your hair for a half hour might be worth it.

Find out how to stop Spyware once and for all from your computer by using very effective Anti Spyware Software. It’s is 100% guaranteed.

Ubuntu Operating System - A Change From Windows in One Move
By Philip Woodrow

When I first started to use the internet, the computer I bought had Microsoft Windows operating system pre-installed on it and like millions of other users I thought no more about it. That is until the viruses started to appear, scaring the pants off everybody, me included. I put up with this for some years, then one day someone mentioned the free Ubuntu operating system, which was the first free Linux distribution I used.

I soon discovered how well written and secure a platform it is. No virus or Trojan worries here. You log on as a user, not as administrator, who is enabled to do everything on the system without question, be it constructive or destructive. Unlike Windows, you don’t need to look for and install a firewall before you can use the computer on the internet, as with Ubuntu, and many other Linux distributions as well, the firewall is already installed and functioning every time you start the system from cold. I find this very reassuring.

My first flirtation with the Ubuntu operating system was Ubuntu Feisty Fawn and I was very impressed with it right from the start. I found it easy to install, and easy to use as well. These two qualities have stayed constant with the many revisions that have occurred since that distribution was first released.

In the four years or so I have been using the Ubuntu operating system, a noticeable characteristic is that with each revision comes a slicker and smarter operating system which remains easy to use and is secure. For those with a keen aesthetic eye, the desktop graphics can be quite stunning. But it doesn’t stop there. There is some excellent free and useful software which is included with the Ubuntu operating system.

If you fancy a change from the Windows operating system, the Ubuntu operating system comes with lots of free software included and in my opinion it is well worth a second look. You never know, you might become an Ubuntu convert.

Today’s Technology presents - What is a Bare Bones Kit and How Can I Use It? http://todaystechnology.info/todays-technology-presents-what-is-a-bare-bones-kit-and-how-can-i-use-it/ http://todaystechnology.info/todays-technology-presents-what-is-a-bare-bones-kit-and-how-can-i-use-it/#comments Mon, 20 Apr 2009 03:43:42 +0000 admin http://todaystechnology.info/?p=13 Here on Today’s Technology we are pleased to present you with articles from our guest writers on a wide variety of technology topics. What is a Bare Bones Kit and How Can I Use It?
By Dennis Levenhagen

Probably the only reason you would want to know this is if you plan to actually building a computer from scratch. These kits do come with components that are compatible to each other but you will need things that are not included.

In the event that you do plan to buy one of these kits you need to know:

1. What are you going to use the computer for?
2. What is in the kit?
3. What quality of parts are in the kit?
4. What kind of case and power supply does it have?
5. Is the processor and mother board at the speed and type you need and want for the applications and operating system you are going to use?
6. Is the amount of RAM included enough for what I plan to do? Vista needs at least 2GIG in order to run efficiently.
7. Is the hard drive big enough? You need at least a 250 GIG but I recommend the biggest you can afford. Some kits may include more or less items than listed above.

Good to know stuff

Do you feel you have enough knowledge to do this? You should have at least a basic understanding of how to build a computer. Know what IS NOT in the kit. This is very important! Here is a kit example: mid tower, ram, power supply, motherboard and processor. Now you say: “what is NOT in this kit?” well for one thing it doesn’t have an operating system included and there is no DVD-RW. Just the operating system alone will add over $100 to the price. Vista is more expensive depending on the flavor you get. That is to say: if you get Vista home you will be at $99.00 but other versions such as Vista Home Premium are more expensive.

Bottom Line

Price!! Do you really save anything by doing it this way? It is hard to say but normally not much. If you want to be sure you have the kind of hardware you want and “only” the software you want it may be worth it. Off the shelf computers come with a lot of bloat ware. These are programs that are not full programs or are only good for 60 or 90 days in most cases. Warranty is usually on the separate components. If you buy it from a retail store the warranty is on the entire unit. The thing to take into consideration with off the shelf (store) computers is that they do not come with any programs. Unless you have them already you must buy them. Even the Anti-Virus programs are only good for 60 or 90 days. That is why they can sell them at such a cheap price. They may also have cheap or low quality parts that may not last or last just long enough to go past the warranty period.

Computer Cautions

If you do build one of these, be sure you ground yourself first. Even a slight jolt of static electricity will render the mother board or processor worthless. BE CAREFUL!! Most parts these days are plastic. Even the cases are plastic. Don’t plug anything in until you double check everything. You could blow out the mother board or yourself. If you don’t know how to do something look it up on the internet or get somebody to help you. If something doesn’t work just double check your connections. You may have forgotten to hook up something or you may not have a plug in all the way. Seek professional help if need be.

Registry Cleaners Reviews - How to Choose the Best Registry Cleaner
By Jonathan Patra

If you want to know how to choose the best registry cleaner for your computer, you will want to read this article. We will talk about 6 functions that a good registry cleaner should have. After reading this article, you will be able to make an informed decision for the best registry cleaner.

But firstly, why do we need to use a registry cleaner?

Majority of us use computers that run on Microsoft Windows operating system, it’s the most popular system in the whole world. Every Windows has a registry which is the most important component of a Windows system. The registry is like a big cabinet that stores sensitive data and information of every piece of application software, hardware and drivers installed in the system.

Every time when you install and remove software/hardware on your computer, the registry will be updated. Windows will always need to access the registry for information and configurations. When you remove a software/hardware, you might think that Windows will automatically clean up the registry but unfortunately this is not the case. As a result, the registry is clogged by useless or irrelevant data over time. If not cleaned up, this mess can create all kinds of unpredicted problems on your computer.

Here are some of the problems that can be caused by unhealthy registry:

- Your computer suddenly runs extremely slow, boot up takes forever and shutdown process hangs

- Windows crashes often without any reason

- Application program won’t start or freezes when using

- Getting blue screen on computer monitor

- Hardware malfunctions

- Unknown error messages

All these problems can easily be prevented by a good registry cleaner. Unfortunately, most users don’t do preventive maintenance for their computers. We only start to look for registry cleaner when our computers are having problems or running slowly.

So, how do you choose the best registry cleaner?

Here are the 6 things I will look for in a registry cleaner:

1. It must have an intuitive user interface (ease of use)

2. It provides a free scan (problems detection)

3. Automatic registry backup

4. It gives you option to manually or automatically fix errors

5. It provides after sales support

6. It speeds up your computer significantly (after fixing the errors, you will feel like you’re having a brand new computer).

Last but not least, I should also mention that there are many free registry cleaners available. But I don’t recommend you to use them because it’s too risky, free software may cause more problems and headaches. So you’ve been warned. Use at your own risk.

Here is one good registry cleaner you should check out. We have scoured through the Net and tested many registry cleaner software and we’ve found this one to be the best. You can also take a look at our Top 3 Registry Cleaners Reviews.

iPods, iPods Everywhere - Bad News For Apple?
By Gene Jensen

It’s definitely not a stretch to say that just about every teen in the United States - probably around the world at this point - owns an iPod. As a matter of fact, according to a recent survey prepared by Piper Jaffray, a leading polling corporation, iPods are quickly nearing the saturation levels of the consumer base, a fact that Apple is now trying to make happen with their new iPhone business. Analyst Gene Muster, who works for Piper Jaffray, commented that the most critical component of growth in the long term is the teenagers and that Apple’s aggressive approach to digital music in the mobile markets - and the mobile market in general - is the right one.

Piper Jaffray has been releasing their bi-annual Teen Survey for eight years now, visiting high schools around the United States and asking the students about what they like as far as their interests go and what they’ve bought in the portable digital media player industry over the last six months to a year. They also survey the students about their online music habits and whether or not they have or want one of Apple’s new iPhones. 600 students were polled for the first survey of 2009 that averaged in age 16 years old. 54 percent of the students were male with the other 46 percent of them female.

Over 92 percent of the students answered that they did indeed own some form of digital music player, with 86 percent of them owning an Apple iPod of some style. This is a 2 percent increase in ownership of iPods since 2008’s fall survey. When they were asked whether or not they would consider purchasing a new digital media player - such as the Apple iPhone - in the next year, the answers were surprising. Only 19 percent of the polled students stated that they would go out and buy a new player and this number is a decline from the 28% reported last year. That 19 percent however did say that they would purchase an iPod if they bought a new device within the next year, showing that Apple holds dominance in the digital music player market.

iPhones are also starting to come into their own in the mobile media market with the teenagers and according to the fall survey in 2008, 8 percent of the students polled owned an iPhone and 22 percent said they would buy one within six months. However, the iPhone predictions have also declined with the 2009 survey. Only 16 percent stated that they would purchase an iPhone. One of the issues here is the expensive data plans that teens want on their phones, and Apple is considering releasing a version that has fewer features and more data space for less expensive plans. Usage of iTunes to download music is still up and the prices are still comparable and affordable to teens.

With the market becoming quickly saturated with iPods and iPhones - and the economy being less than ideal - many parents and teenagers are turning to iPod repair companies when their phones and music players go on the fritz. The cost of repairing the device - which usually only requires a system reset more times than not - is still less than purchasing a new one. Plus iPod companies overhaul entire systems and make them brand new, selling them on places like eBay for a fraction of the cost. As long as prices continue to remain higher than most teens can afford on both the iPod and the iPhone, the better iPod repair companies are going to be.
